Manchester Little League Managers & Coaches,

To All coaches signed up to Volunteer at Manchester Little League for the upcoming 2024 spring season, WE THANK YOU!!!   It is because of the time you put in and your overall hard work and dedication that enables the young children and teenagers in this town to experience playing baseball with their friends and neighbors.  This league is run by a group of volunteers, such as yourself.  We are here to help you in any way possible.  Below is a list of what we feel is needed to make this league and your team a success this season.  Please look it over and bring any questions or concerns that you have to your Division Player Agent or myself.  Thank you.

Do note, we appreciate you very much for stepping up to help teach these children not only about the game of baseball but more importantly about overall life lessons, being a team player and most important, having fun!.

Coaches Responsibility List

  • Find a Team Mom, this is very important.  Your team mom will be your communicator via text, email and phone to your team parents for things like; schedules, fundraisers, stand coverages, picture day, team info and much, much more. It will take a lot off the shoulders of a manager and coach so you can concentrate on teaching the kids.
  • Make practices fun!! A good organized practice should be 60 minutes at the younger levels and 90 minutes for Minors and above.  Get your coaches and parents involved.  Come in to each practice with a game plan.  Incorporate breaking the kids up in groups with each group doing different instructional drills.  Practices should first incorporate discussing the days plan with the team and some light stretching.
  • The league has a couple Fundraisers to off-set the cost of running this Little League. Each parent gets assigned three Pick 3 tickets per child (2 Tix for Tball). These tickets will be distributed (Team Mom) at the beginning of the season.  Parents have already paid for these tickets with their registration fee.  Daily winning payouts for this fundraiser are made on a weekly basis.   More info on this can be found on our Fundraising page.  The proceeds from this fundraiser pay for the league umpires costs throughout the season.
  • Each regular season and All-Star Team is required  to provide the league a Gift Basket worth a minimum of $100 for our yearly GIFT AUCTION later in the year.  Teams can provide their Gift Basket at any time during the season.  Usually the team moms for each team will collect a few dollars or items from the teams parents.  Shared amongst a team, that is approximately $9 per parent.  More info on this can be found on our Fundraising page.  The proceeds from this fundraiser pay for a portion of our mortgage on the Indoor Training Facility.
  • Each coach is required by Little League to pass a criminal background check that we run free of charge to you.  This process will take place during the month of March.
  • This season we are requiring each coach in our league to attend our mandatory safety meeting at the Indoor Training Facility on Thursday March 16th starting at 6pm and ending around 8:30pm.  There is a minimal $5 charge for this and as a coach and/or volunteer you will leave the safety meeting with a certification card good for three years.
  • For every HOME game that you have, your Team Mom needs to schedule one parent from your team to help work in the Snackstand for the length of that game.  It works out where a parent only has to do this one time per season.  More info on this can be found on our Snackstand page.  For every VISITORS  game that you have, your Team Mom needs to schedule one parent from your team to work the scoreboard on that field for the length of that game.  It works out where a parent only has to do this one time per season.
  • We do not have a full time grounds crew, so we need all the coaches to prep the fields prior to your games and practices.  Also, at the conclusion of your games and practices, fields need to be raked, dugouts swept, garbage cans cleaned and all equipment put away.  This is a lot of responsibility, but here is the trick.  Get your parents involved!!!!  While you are talking to your players after each practice and game, have your Team Mom or yourself get your moms and dads or older siblings to help out with these things.  Discuss this at your team meeting and make it happen. It will take a huge burden off your shoulders.
  • In order to get the fields and complex ready for Opening Day, we are blocking some field practices on Saturday mornings in March from 7am-11am.  Each coach in our league is required to attend these Saturday morning cleanups.  Attendance will be taken each Saturday, so please schedule you and your coaches now so the complex can ready and safe for the children in our league.
  • Opening Day is Saturday April 6th starting at 9am!!!
